Hello everyone- Erica here to show you a really neat way to title your layout using brushes and a font. Today I will teach you how to make a grungy outlined title.
Your first step is going to be to download this watercolor brush set by BrittBox. Get it here.
Complete your layout to your liking and ready for a title. The first thing you want to do is select the top layer in the layers stack, then click the ‘Horizontal Type Mask Tool’.
Click down to start to type- you will notice in PSE that it turns the whole document pink.
Then find the font you would like to use. I used Rockwell Extra Bold.
Once you are finished typing your title you then click the ‘Move Tool’
You will notice that it makes a selection in the font we used to make our title. You will also notice that it did not make a new layer, so click to make a new layer.
Now you want to click the ‘Brush Tool’ and go to the brush selection at the top. Click on the double arrows and select ‘Load Brush’. Make sure when you downloaded and unzipped the brush that you put it somewhere you’ll remember and can use it for this step. Find the downloaded BB_watercolor_CS1.abr file and click it.
You will then see that you have the brushes loaded- find the light watercolor brush 2500 and click it. Select the color you want and click over the selected title a few times.
Now before you deselect, make another new layer. Go up to edit and select ‘Stroke Selection’. In the dialogue box select a width of 8 pixels, your color should be the same and select center for the location. Make sure that the ‘preserve transparency’ is unchecked then click ‘OK’.
We can now select our ‘Move Tool’ and then ctrl+D to deselect. Use your arrow keys to make a slight nudge on the outline. To move both layers together hold ctrl and click and then both layers are selected together. You can then move them to the desired place on the page.
Here is what my finished layout looks like, using Trixie Scraps ‘Hot for Teacher‘-
I hope you learned something new. Be sure to upload your finished layout in a gallery and post a comment here on our Sunday Show-Off with your gallery link so we can see your work and you can get a something from Tracy!
