Candy here for another Tips, Trends, and Techniques Tuesday! I am so excited now that we are heading full steam into the holiday season, and I wanted to share a little on how I document this most wonderful time of the year.
My favorite project every year is my December Daily album that I use to document everything we do in the month of December – parties, programs, decorations, etc. I was inspired by Ali Edwards to start doing a December Daily album in 2008. I completed the project again in 2009. Being a digital scrapper means that my process is different from Ali’s in that I don’t build my album ahead of time. Still, I have learned that for this project to become a reality there really is a need for some advance work.
If you are thinking about trying a December Daily album this year now is the time to start!
Set up a folder where you keep your scrapbooking supplies labelled December Daily. Here you can start storing supplies that you want to use. Trixie Scraps has lots of products that are perfect for a December Daily album!
I always start by choosing a lovely holiday kit to serve as my base. I usually stick to one kit to give my album a unified look, but you can pull from several if that’s more your style! You may want to consider how you decorate at home since you will likely take many pictures there and choose a kit or kits that match your decorations. Here are some very different Trixie Scraps kits that I like:
Date Stamps make it easy to label each days page(s). They can easily be recolored to match your pages and can help as a unifying element throughout your album.
Templates make finishing your pages so much easier. Even if you don’t use templates very much in your every day scrapbooking, they are perfect for a December Daily album, because you want to be able to complete pages quickly. Many people choose to only document the 25 days leading up to and including Christmas, but many document the entire month and other holiday celebrations. To stay caught up it helps to complete a page a day (or a couple of pages every other day) so speed is important. Trixie has some excellent template packs for this –
Double page templates to help unify your facing pages
Single page templates that have a nice mix of single and multi-photo pages
Even templates designed for Project 365! These are perfect for days and events where one photo is never enough to tell the whole story (like Christmas morning!)
And we can’t forget all of the little things that make our pages special!
Once you have your December Daily folder full of goodies you’ll be all ready to go on December 1 to complete your own December Daily album!
Trixie was so excited about introducing this project on our team blog that she reached out to partner with a great printing company to help you complete your project by having it professionally printed. In addition, please make sure to watch the blog because we’ll soon be featuring special offers on the products shown in this article to help you complete your own December Daily project – if you would like to give this a try, leave us a comment and let us know – we’d love to hear from you!
