Happy Monday, Happy Valentine’s Day and welcome to another edition of Make It Hybrid Monday. One of the easiest hybrid projects to make are cards. I find myself making lots of cards and then wondering- but how do I mail it or give it away without an envelope? Today, I’ll show you how to make a simple hybrid envelope to match that beautiful card that you’ve just made and some tips and tricks on other uses of envelopes that you can use for future projects.
To start, you’ll need a 8.5×11 piece of paper. Select and print your patterned paper on one side. Fold the long 11″ side of your paper 1.5″ into the unprinted side on each side
Fold the short 8.5″ side of your paper 3″ into the unprinted side on each side
Next, you want to unfold the paper and cut around inner part of the envelope, leaving out the four corners of the piece of paper
Fold in the two side flaps of your envelope and add adhesive on the inner edge.
Fold over one of the larger flaps press down on the inner flaps and fold the remaining flap over.
You will have a completed envelope. You can also jazz up your outer flap by using decorative scissors or border punches and decorate all sides of the envelope. Once you have slid your completed card inside the envelope, you can seal it with a glue stick, sticker or anything to your heart’s content. You can create an envelope with any scrapbook paper that you have laying around or any digital kit to match your project. There are also layered envelope templates available that allow you to mix and match different patterns for different parts of the envelope.
Using one of Trixie Scraps’ newest releases, Roots and Branches, I created a series of matching envelopes. I then hole punched the envelopes on the side and tied them together to create an album in which each member of the family had their own envelope of pictures. I sealed each envelope with a velcro clasp found in sewing aisles in the craft store.
Using another one of this week’s releases, a collab with Studio Rosey Posey, Distinct Hush, I created a series of matching envelopes to create a fold out album of my travels by adhering the flap of each envelope to the next envelope and folded them accordian style
These are just a few ideas of what you can create with a basic envelope template but there are endless possibilities using what you already have in your stash!
