Hi Everyone! I’m here to share a quick and simple tutorial on writing text on a path using shapes! This screenshots for this tutorial were created in Photoshop CS5 – menu options may be different in your program.
1. First open up your program and create a new file. Start your layout as you normally would. I hid my photo and element layers to better see what I’m doing with my text.
2. Optional: I decided to create a mat for my word art, using a custom shape.
3. Select your shape (basic or custom) from the menu and be sure to select PATHS near the top of your screen. Draw your shape on a new layer. I chose a simple circle to match my mat for my layout.
4. Select TEXT and choose your font, font size, etc… and place your cursor on the OUTSIDE of the shape (the text cursor will change to a wavey line, as opposed to it’s normal straight line appearance), and start typing. Placing your cursor on the inside of the shape will fill the shape with your text (a great idea for hearts or circular text!), rather than tracing the outline of your shape in text.
Here’s my layout using Owl Always Love You!

Thanks so much…is there a tutorial out there or an idea for the next one on how to journal on the outside of a shape or element. Let’s say I had a big heart element in the middle of my page and wanted to journal all around it but in straight horizontal lines…how would one do that?
