Hey everyone! Today we are going to talk about journaling. There are soo many different ways to get your story told and today we are going to focus on simply telling the story.
How many of us have looked at scrapbooks from the past and wondered who was in the photo and what were they doing? When we scrapbook we need to answer the who, what, where, & why. Who will end up with your scrapbooks in the future? You are preserving memories not only for your immediate family, but for your posterity as well. By being descriptive in your journaling you are creating a history that will endear you to future generations. Tell the story behind the pictures. Where are you and why are you there? Why is Aunt Ginny laughing so hard? How did little Johnny get that cut on his knee? Even if the story doesn’t seem interesting, it tells who you are. (via DigitalScrapbookingTips.com)
Scrap Star Stacey has done an amazing job telling the story in her layout Singing:
When you first look at this layout, all you see are her beautiful girls playing on the swings. Then you read her journaling and you find out that there was way more going on when these photos were taken! What a great memory to capture.
Scrap Star Bree’s layout It Came Out is another great example:
You look at it and immediately notice that her daughter is missing a tooth, which explains the title. Then you read the journaling and you learn about how the tooth first came loose while she was eating corn on the cob, it took over a week to finally fall out and how her daughter was so excited when it finally did that she kept sticking her tongue through the hole! It is the little, descriptive things that her daughter is going to appreciate 20 years from now. If it was just the photo and no journaling, sure, we would know that she lost her tooth, but we would have no idea how she felt when she did.
It doesn’t have to be a lot of writing and it doesn’t have to be the best writing. Tell the who, what, where and when in your own words and years from now you will be so happy that you did!
