I absolutely LOVE Sunday Spotlights because it is a chance to connect with other digi-scrappers and feel a bit more like a community of friends sharing an awesome hobby. I was so excited to ask Berniek to be our spotlight since I have seen her gorgeous creations popping up in the Trixie Gallery. Here are a few questions and answers from her:
Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Berniek and I am a 25 year old woman from the Netherlands. I studied Social Work and graduated in 2009. After getting my Bachelor of Social Work I went to Canada for 8 months. I was living and working in Whistler, BC. I got to know a lot of great people, had great fun, learned how to snowboard and how to enjoy life. Back in Holland I failed to find a suitable job and so I worked as a cashier in a supermarket for a year. In September of this year I started my bachelor of Education which I can finish in 1 year after which I will be able to teach.
How did you get into digi?
My time in Canada was mostly great but the last months I lived in New-Westminster (near Vancouver, BC). I was low on money and my friends from Whistler weren’t with me. Alone and without money to do stuff, I ended up in my apartment browsing the Internet. I came across some digital scrapbooking sites and started to collect all kinds of freebies. But I didn’t have any software on my laptop to try this digital scrapbooking out yet. Back in the Netherlands I could finally give it a try and loved it instantly!
What is your favorite Trixie kit?
I just love Blush Beauty because it’s such an easy kit to use. The colors are beautiful and everything works together very well. I don’t think it’s possible to make an ugly layout using that kit. Lol!
What is your favorite type of element to use?
I just LOVE glitters: on papers, on elements, as splatters! I don’t care as long as I get some glitter in every kit. And I also love using stitches. Luckily the Trixie Scraps kits mostly always have those two!
How did you find Trixie Scraps?
I first came across Trixie Scraps Designs on the 5 Star Digital Scrapbooking site. She was a featured designer in May 2011 and I just fell in love with her work and the freebie kit!
What do you like to scrap about?
I scrap about my life. And since I haven’t got kids yet, and I’m not in a relationship either, I mostly scrap about me and life around me. I scrap whatever photo’s I feel like scrapping plus I have some projects I’m working on.
Right now I’m still working on my Berniek goes Canada album: I want to scrap an album of the photo’s I took during my time in Canada. I’m almost at the end, but I’ve also got my next project ready: scrapping the Three Sisters on the Road-trip I took with my two sisters in the summer of 2010.

I love how the page “my first school picture” turned out. I used the a daily download kit by Trixie Scraps: I love my teacher.
“Three sisters on the road” is the front cover of the photo album I am making about the road trip I took with my sisters in 2010. I used the Blush Beauty collection and parts from the SMTM mini kit. The template I used is also from Trixie Scraps: Star Struck volume 5.
I chose “Yellow” for a challenge at Gotta Pixel where you had to scrap your favourite color. Coloring the photo was totally new for me but I like how it turned out! Also here I used Blush Beauty and a template from the Star Struck Volume 5 Template Pack. Can you tell I love templates? Lol!
When do you scrap?
Last year I was scrapping all the spare time I had. I worked as a cashier in a supermarket and didn’t have a lot to do besides that. So I had a lot of time on my hands to scrapbook. But now I’m back to college and I’m much busier than last year. So I mostly scrap in the evenings or in the weekend.
What do you listen to while you scrap/design?
I have a 5 disc CD box I listen to with the 100 best songs of the summer of 2011. Or I turn on the radio to listen to 3FM (a dutch radio station), but I find all the talking distracting. I can’t focus on scrapping and listen to people talking at the same time…
If you could be an animal what would it be?
I would like to be a bird: singing pretty songs and flying free in the sky. Yeah, that sounds good to me.
If you could have dinner with anyone, famous or not, living or dead, real or fiction, who would it be and why?
Difficult question. I would love to have dinner with my grandparents. Both my grandmothers passed away when I was still very young and my grandfathers have also passed away now. I would love to see them again and talk to them about things that matter now. And of course, to tell them I love all of them very much.
Isn’t she just lovely? Thank you so much for participating Berniek and thank you for sharing a little about yourself and a few of your lovely layouts.
