Hello Trixie fans! Fall is a season of change, and that means some fun new features here on the Trixie Scraps blog. Don’t worry, you’ll still be getting lots of fun tips, trends, and techniques from us, and of course weekly sales, but the format is just going to be changing a little. Starting this week, our hybrid projects, and scrapbooking tutorials will be brought to you as part of our Masters Mondays series. Don’t be worried about losing Must Have Monday’s though, because we have a different stash building sale coming your way to fill that void. Each week, Take $2 Tuesdays will bring you two kits each on sale for only $2 for one day only. Be sure to stop by the blog tomorrow to check that out. For now, take a look at the first installment of our Masters Monday series…
Did you know Johnny Appleseed Day is coming up on Wednesday? It’s really one of those fun holidays the kids celebrate in preschool! And since I volunteered to make something for the kids for that day, I decided to make them little favor boxes filled with apple seeds, or in this case, brown mini m&ms. I am also upcycling some toilet paper rolls for this project, which is one great use for those little cardboard tubes.
To follow along, you’ll need the following materials:
Toilet paper rolls (1 per favor box)
Scrapbooking Kit of Choice
White Cardstock
Coordinating Ribbon
Neutral colored wrapping paper (or a piece of 8.5×11 white paper)
Modpodge & sponges
Scissors
Adhesive
Candies or any filler to place inside
For this project, I am using Apples for the Teacher Kit and Bonus Papers by Trixie Scraps
Step 1: Print out your scrapbooking paper of choice on white cardstock. Each 8.5 x 11 should make about 3 rolls. Then cut them into 4.5 x 5 inch strips, using your toilet paper roll as a guide.
Step 2: Make your labels in Photoshop. I choose to make an apple label with the Johnny Appleseed saying layered on top. Print and cut them out. “One little seed will sprout into a tree, filled with apples for you and me! Happy Johnny Appleseed Day!”
Step 3: Apply the modpodge to the blank side of the scrapbook paper, then glue it to the roll. Paste some modpodge on top of the roll, it will dry clear.
Step 4: Bend one end of the roll, and apply some modpodge over the seam. While it was drying, I used a binder clip to keep it shut.
Step 5: Place your goodies inside with some crumpled paper strips. For Johnny Appleseed day, I placed some mini brown m&ms to symbolize apple seeds.
Step 6: Now bend and glue the other end of the roll, so your box is now shut. Wrap some ribbon around it and glue the label. The label I made had a hole to thread the ribbon through. If you choose a more basic label, you can always lay it flat and apply some modpodge over it so it will lay flat over top the ribbon. Your favor boxes are now complete!
