Welcome to Tips, Trends, and Techniques Tuesday! I have a horrible confession to make today. I took almost no photos this summer. I know, it’s hard to believe, especially since summer is so full of events that are just perfect for capturing on camera. Unfortunately, my photo taking mojo seemed to sail right out the window as the warm weather swept in. So what’s a girl to do when she’s got no new photos to scrap but is itching to create a page? Well, that brings me to today’s trend: Photoless Layouts.
Lets take a look at some journaling pages to get the ball rolling. Journaling pages are a perfect way to capture a verbal snapshot of your life at a specific moment. This layout by Stacey using Showers of Love is a perfect example. I really love how she’s highlighted a simple list with the soft greens and pinks of this kit. A page like this would be just perfect as a monthly recap in a yearbook style scrapbook.
This layout by Laina is another great journaling page. She has used the Remembering You kit to beautiful effect on this page honoring her mom. This gorgeous kit has been used to lovely effect to create the perfect background for her heartfelt journaling.
Another big trend I have noticed with photoless layouts is quote pages. These pages usually highlight a single fun or funny quote and look like they could go on the wall as a framed print or poster. In fact, these layouts often remind me that a scrapped page doesn’t have to be just a layout that goes in a book. This layout by Candy is a great example. She created this fantastic, patriotic tribute to Texas using Stars & Stripes.
Can’t you just picture that hanging up on the wall, or framed on a mantle or end table?
I have a quote here that I scrapped myself this summer. I used Defining Me to create this page and had a lot of fun mixing up the fonts and textures used for the different words. Doesn’t the glittery paper on the word sparkle just make you want to smile? I think I’m going to get a print made of this one to hang on my bedroom wall for a morning pick me up each day.
I hope these layouts have given you a little bit of inspiration for those days that you just can’t find the right photo to scrap. If you’ve never created a layout without a photo on it before I dare you to give it a try.
