It’s Monday – hopefully we’re all having a good one. Today I am here with a couple tips for some quick and easy journaling.
Because I have half a dozen kids, I have quite a few photos that are similar – some with more than one child in it as well, and trying to journal something for the same picture half a dozen times or for more than one person can get annoying. It can get difficult to come up with different ways to say the same thing or to scrap the same situation, different day in different ways.
This is when I lean on some of my other loves in life – music and writing.
We’ve talked a bit about using lyrics for a title, but how about using it for your journaling instead? Years ago I heard a song called, Who I Am by Jessica Andrews. Since that day I’ve wanted to make a scrapbook layout using that song as my guide. I didn’t use the whole song for my journaling, instead I used bits and pieces of it to journal a page about Who I Am. The kit used for this layout was You Raise Me Up and the Glitter Papers for You Raise Me Up.
If lyrics aren’t doing it for you, why not look to written words? They can be found anywhere – Fairy Tales, Novels, Children’s books, poetry, etc.
I’ve been a fan of Shel Silverstein since I was in about 8th grade and our teacher read us one of his poems. In later years I collected a couple books of his works. In one book I found a cute, quick little poem that made for perfect journaling for a bathtime photo. I used All About Me: The Littles kit and elements from Love In The Garden for this layout.
So, next time you get tongue-tied and can’t think of just the right thing to say, turn on the music or tear open the nearest book. I’m sure you’ll find something that will work for you. My favorite quote from a book is running around in my head now and someday I hope to do a layout with that.
If you come up with something, I’d love to see it. Share it in our gallery.
