October is winding down so quickly! In north-central Alberta we’ve been enjoying a gorgeous Indian summer for weeks and the forecast for today is “mixed precipitation”, which could be anything from freezing rain, sleet, rain mixed with snow or just plain old snow. As much as October is my favourite colour, when its last days arrive I always feel a deep sense of regret. Regret that I don’t enjoy summer more while it’s here. Regret that autumn flies by too fast. Regret that winter falls hard on its heels. And so, that’s why I chose REGRET for this month’s Sentiment Sunday post.
I found a great quote from Jackie Joyner-Kersee that applies quite perfectly to this time of year… “It’s better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret.” And for once (usually I’m caught flat-footed by something I KNOW is coming), that’s exactly what I’ve done! The flowerbeds are all cleaned up, the leaves raked, the garage organized so both cars will fit and the furnace has been serviced. So bring it on!
We’ve all got things we regret… lost loves, missed opportunities, broken promises… I hope this inspires you to document one of these and share it with me in the gallery. I created this layout that reflects my regret for the rapidly approaching replacement of lovely Autumn with her evil step-sister Winter. (Lyrics by Willie Nelson.) I can’t wait to see yours.
