Today, I want to talk about themed kits. We all have those photos that are just screaming for a certain kit. Sports photos, dance recitals, family vacations…you name it, there is probably a kit out there that features it. But what do you do with that kit after you’ve purchased it? Do you use it just once and stash it away? No way! I say pull that bad boy back out and use it for something out of the box. You’d be happy that you did! I scoured the gallery and found a few kits with a specific theme that have been used in a non-themed manner.
Let’s start with King of the Pride.
With it’s rich colors, animal silhouettes and theme-specific word strips, this kit is geared towards scrapping photons from zoo trips and safaris. Jen chose to use the kit to showcase photos of her son riding his awesome trike. I love how she used the deep reds in the kit to play off the red of the bike. Great choice!
Shauna also took advantage of those wonderful colors and used the kit to scrap photos of a kite flying trip with her family.
Next, let’s take a look at Master Chef. A cooking-centric kit, right? Wrong!
I love this car layout by blkdog70. The colors and elements in the kit are perfect for the “retro” style of the classic cars.
I had a great big laugh at this layout by crazsquaw! I think I’ll have to look up how to create that effect soon!
Lastly, Trixie has an amazing collection of bike-related kits called Riding with Boys and Riding with Girls.
I found lots of layouts in the gallery using photos of bikes and cars, but Kris had a layout using each kit perfectly. She played with the colors and ended up with these stunning pages.
So there you go – don’t retire those kits with heavy themes after one or two uses. Keep them active…who knows, the color palette may just be perfect for your everyday photos! Please remember to post those non-themed layouts in the gallery. Happy Scrapping!
