Hello, Trixie fans! It’s time for another installment of Sentiment Sunday, and today I want to focus on something that has played a huge role in my life these past couple of months. It’s something that each of us should be able to identify with, and that is home.
Why home?
For years, my husband and I have desired to move out of our old home. We were living in an older mobile home that needed work, and didn’t have a storm shelter. That’s a pretty big deal in Tornado Alley. A few months ago, we were both in agreement as to what we wanted to look for in a new place, and we are now happily settled into our new house, complete with a 15-person storm shelter right in our own backyard. The past month of moving has definitely brought my concept of ‘home’ front-and-center, and I’ve come to realize a few things.
Moving day was on November 1st, and for a week, I spent my days going back and forth across town with boxes for the new home, trash for the dumpster, and donations for the local charity shop. I wasn’t getting much time with my family as we were all so busy with the move. I found that I didn’t feel at home in my old house as I went back for more boxes, and I wasn’t feeling at home in the new house either. I couldn’t figure out why I was so unsettled until that old sentiment, “home is where the heart is,” came to mind. In all of the chaos, we weren’t having any family time. Our personal things were gone from one house, but we hadn’t bonded in that new home yet. Thankfully, we are all unpacked, the house is decorated for the holidays, and we are all feeling settled and very much at home in the new house.
Sentiments about home
There are so many wonderful old sentiments and sayings about the home that could be used to scrapbook your concept of home. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Home is where the heart is. (Pliny the Elder)
- Home for the holidays
- Home is where you are
- I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself. (Maya Angelou)
- Home is not where you live but where they understand you. (Christian Morgenstern)
- It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.
Layout inspiration
This layout was creating using the Happy Homebody collab kit by North Meets South Studios, which is available here.
I hope that I’ve inspired you to consider what is home to you…perhaps it’s a place or a person. Maybe it’s an inanimate object (my ‘home’ used to be in my books). Wherever you find your home, I wish you peace and joy in it. And if you have another special quote sentiment about home that you love and would like to share, please post it in the comments! Until next time, happy scrapping!
